Jim Kelley, Owner
Jim is a native of southern New England and began his endurance sports career on his high school cross country, xc ski and track teams. He attended the University of Maine where he earned a degree in wildlife biology and lettered in cross country. When he started working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service he was stationed in Maryland where skiing opportunities were few and far between. After being convinced to race in the American Birkebeiner in 1997, he did his first 3 Birkies by driving to Hayward, got on snow for a day or two, raced the Birkie and then drove back home to Maryland. Jim fell in love with northwest Wisconsin on his Birkie trips and decided to move here in 1999 and has lived in Centuria (just a few miles north of the Cyclova shop) ever since. He has now completed 20 Birkies. Jim is a ten-time Boston Marathon qualifier with a PR of 2:51. He also competed in triathlons for many years and completed 8 Ironman races, narrowly missing Kona qualification, but qualified for both the Ironman 70.3 World Championship and World Duathlon Championship twice. He is now entering his fifth decade of endurance running, and is currently focusing on trail ultra-marathons.
As a new co-owner he hopes to put the “run” back into Cyclova and wants to make the shop a true cross country ski shop again. Jim is also a USA Triathlon and Ironman Certified Coach and is working on USSA Nordic coaching certification as well. His coaching company, PR-Endurance is helping endurance athletes from across the country achieve their goals. Jim has dreamed of owning a ski/bike shop for nearly 30 years and joining Cyclova is truly a dream come true. In August 2018, Jim will retire from his day job after 26 years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and start spending time in the shop developing his bike mechanic skills, fitting running shoes, stone-grinding skis, and putting on endurance events.
Jim, his wife Lindsay, and stepson Payden live in a log home on 20 acres in Centuria, Wisconsin that is a playground for 4 horses, a couple of trail-running Dobermans, an Italian Greyhound and 2 new barn cats.
